lille æske

history

lille æske arthouse was created by Sarah and James Mackessy and first opened its doors to the public in the spring of 2014. Offering an intimate “listening room” for high-caliber musical performances, farm-to-table pop-up dinners with innovative local chefs, First Friday gallery receptions featuring local visual artists and a small retail presence, lille æske quickly set new standards for the community of Boulder Creek (and beyond). The Mackessy’s immersive installation work of 2018, Spektrum, garnered accolades from far beyond the Santa Cruz Mountains and earned the arthouse a place in local history, with many visitors returning to experience the magic of their imagination multiple times.

In 2019 Sarah and James made the decision to pursue their dreams (and a bigger venue) in Racine, WI, where they will be transforming an old church into a new manifestation of their passion for art and community, ændre. To follow their path on Instagram, click here.

lille æske has been a gathering space, a source of inspiration and a testament to creativity in all its forms since its inception, and we hope to carry forth the Mackessy’s visions of creative and community-centric arts, space, events and music far into the future.
